A SIX DOLLAR CUP OF COFFEE

by Andres Ibañez

Through the eyes of a Tseltal family, the story connects an indigenous coffee co-op in Chiapas, Mexico with the third wave coffee shops and their demanding baristas in Seattle, USA. Even though the Tseltal business model seems to be successful and viable, the risks they take jeopardize all their efforts. A destructive plague coming from South America threatens the mere existence of coffee in the continent while the market stumbles and makes them accept low prices. The film explores a fragile community of coffee producers struggling to find their place in the harsh reality of the global coffee market.
